Yeah, don't do it on your SE4 Mike! otherwise you might be picking up the end cap seperate from the engine _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

LOL I'm laughing...but these guys are right! I'm pushing the envelope using my disk-crank but it's the only minor I have.
As far as how I do it...my tap water is very hot and low flame is crucial. The 57 min run shocked
me and there is very little room to improve upon it. Boiler was so full it spit water for a good
20-40 seconds after wheel began to turn on it's own. So, more water doesn't make sense.
I could see alcohol in the bung's vent, yet it wasn't to the top of the vent. Maybe I could add
a pinch more there. Maybe I could trim the wick more.
About 1/2 way through the run, the trunion was tightened a bit, as I thought maybe too much
steam was escaping, it stands to reason that having a full run at that trunion tension would
save steam. I must reconsider the no alterations statement because the bung is
homemade and I cut down the bung's stem to displace less fuel. It ran strong, not just ticking over,
and could've powered a light tool for maybe 1/2 hr. It's not really about that, though...it's
about fuel supply and making that last. _________________ -Chuck

Maybe you should run the engine in a really hot environment. I ran an SE3 in the baking sun in july and it increased the run time a few mins _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

I'm not sure, MM. I think the fuel will burn for same length of time. But you might make
more steam...the engine would run faster but maybe not longer. I've been running my
engines in the basement, where its cooler. Interesting idea and worth checking out! _________________ -Chuck

I could call it The Liverpool underground.
Definately got me plotting and scheming now. Is there no end to this treadmill of expence? It'll be great though. _________________ He who keeps his head while all about him are losing theirs, doesn't know how serious it is. |
