If it's that bad then repaint it.

I wouldn't mind because it's just an SEL, like I did with mine anyway

just a sel mm
there still steam engines and are great ones at that

SEL aren't one of them afraid . . .

Like I said no where near the quality of the big two!

I think SELs are great little engines, but then I'm biased . My first ever steam toy was a SEL major - brand new - around 40-45 years ago! I wish I'd kept it now but I didn't. I have another one now.

Its whatever floats your Lew! I have had quite a few SELs over the years, they lack something in my eyes, they go OK, not the most powerful, but they aint a good Mamod or certainly anywhere near a Bowman - that just my opinion!

I think that engines from different manufacturers appeal for different reasons. SELs don't have the wow! factor like a Bowman or Mersey, (or a nice Mamod of course!), but they're nice things to have, and if you're going to collect British steam toys they're an important part of the whole picture. Fun to run too!

I haven't seen a SEL engine in person, but I dislike their tools.
I won the Fan, Grinder, and the Saw a while back

I know it's bakerlite, but plastic is plastic, and not suited to a steam accesory.

I sold them on, and just got my money back

I'm extremely fond of my SEL engines - I'll concede that they're not the most powerful, although the 1550 is capable of serious work. To me, the main attraction is visual - they have a look about them that unmistakably places them in their timeframe.

The SEL marine engine is in a class of it's own - quite possibly the strongest single-acting oscillating engine around in that class. It makes very light work of propelling my Arrow

There's an even better one for propelling your arrow Odilon.

It's called A Bow.......man.

They're alright, clearly built on a budget and very very very small!
