i ran my mamod loco today, and it ran a dream with my new loco burner. the only trouble is, the burner runs out too quickly! so... in true chantry bodge it form, i have come up with an idea. to put an adaptor onto the burner, and a pipe going through the hole in the back of the cab, then have the pipe going to a tank in the tender full of meths, so it doesnt run out.

clever eh?

i will probably start tomorrow

Make sure the tank is at the same level otherwise it will push meths out the burner wick tubes. They should last long enough, cut your wicks down a bit more! You only need about 0.5 cm!

Just make sure the top of the tank is lower the top of the tubes for the wicks otherwise when you fill up the tank it will flow up the wick tubes, could be nasty is wicks are lit.

Also make sure you don't make it too much bigger and run your boiler dry.
Of course you can replace the whistle with a water top up valve.

Yeah I would move the safety valve to the back as the uprated ones look like whistles anyway and have the top up valve on the front so its easier to get to!

i might replace the whistle with a top up valve/pressure guage

how much are top up valves?

are they any good?

do they actually work?

are they ugly?

why am i asking so many questions?

They look mamod safety valves just a bit flatter. Take out the whistle its completely useless!
