Tmuir, I also only use the liquid stuff, as you say, not other choice here.

They do have wadding stuff in tins, at auto spare shops. For cleaning/polising etc.
Can't recall exact brand, but I used to use it on chrome a lot, and was in a yellow tin.
Mothers or meguiars brand maybe.
Don't know if it does brass though
