Fly strike? Ahh, that is a pain in the arse (literally). he flies come and lay eggs on the sheeps bum, and the eggs hatch into maggots. Then, the maggots eat the sheep away from the inside. We have had a couple, and when you squeeze two bits of skin together, maggots come pouring out of little holes. It is awful. Next summer if we get it I'll video it. We were lucky this year, we escapwed and everyone else got it bad.

That's the one mate, fly strike. From what I heard it's terrible.

I'll pass on the vid

Well there's some process where they remove skin to avoid it. Pink was speaking out against it, but from what they say fly strike is much more cruel.

The wool industry is up in arms about her, and she's coming to OZ soon, and have offered her to see the process, and see how cruel fly strike is.

Apparently she is going to visit a sheep station
We'll see

She won't want to see it, it nearly makes you sick, they eat them from the inside, how can that be less cruel?

Exactly mate.

They say with removing the skin, the lamb is fine within 5mins.
Fly strike is real cruel.

Apparently she just acted on info PETA gave her (animal rights thinghy?).

Another actress, Toni Collete did the same and she ended up apolgising to the wool indusrty after she saw fly strike

Happy new year mate

Nah mate, before they get it.
I just can't think of the name they gave it.
But when they are little, they remove 2 strips of skin near their bum put some powder on, and all is sweet.

That means they won't ever get fly strike. ie. preventing fly strike.

Hmm, I was going to say, if they didn't put powder on, it will attract more flies

Sounds a good idea, never heard of it over here though. I will post some pics and a vid up of my Lincoln lambs when I get them, and I will try to get them being born on film too.

James, I finally remembered it.

Mulesing. Not sure if that's exact spelling, but pronounced
"mule sing", but as one word

Don't you hate it when popstars pick up on some perceived injustice and start bleating on about it before they engage their braincell?
Stick to the singing (or in Pink's case, just shut up completely )

Nice one Mooseman, and yup, she should shut up completely

She was obviously paid heaps for doing the "anti mulesing" thing, as if she hasn't got enough money.
And in the end, her campaining hurts the hip pockets of those who are already suffering, the farmers here
If only she had have looked into it more.
I hope they show her visiting the sheep stations here

I'm not from a farming background, but my wife's family is, so I sympathize with the farmers cause.....Fiona's dad used to be in animal feeds, but he lost his job three times in rapid succession because all the farmers in Devon got bought out by rich Londoners in search of barn conversions....in 12 years time I have seen that area of Devon go from strong agricultural to playground for rich boys in Chelsea tractors

Cheers Wallace, I have never heard of it, don't know about my old man, will ask him when he gets home.

Yes, I think they should make her squeeze the maggots out of a sheep's back, like a fountain, while it is being eaten from the inside out, alive. I doubt she will be against it then. It just does your pissing head in!

Yeah Mooseman, nearly all the farmers out here are doing it tough. Pretty sad for them. Suicide rates amongst them are high, so I've heard. Mostly due to drought.
I'm not from a farming family either. Dad owns property, which was passed down to him from his Dad, but that's all. He rents the paddocks out.

Yeah ask your Dad James. I heard some might be phasing it out, and using injections to stop fly strike. Not sure though

Yeah it is mate.
Hmm, wonder why.
I mean we have the RSPCA (who pin you for cruelty to animals), but they obviously approve of it as it is commonly done, and allowed.

The only surefire way against flystrike
