The saga continues!
Got my cylinders from PPS today - very fast service.
Unfortunately one of the cylinders has a damaged piston rod.
Fortunately PPS will be putting another one in the post today, so due to PPS fast service, all being well I should still be able to get Titan finished in time.
I still will be anxious until I actualy have it running around the layout though, you never know whats in store with steam engines!!! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!

I am planning on setting up my track and running my SL2 and maybe Lady Anne this weekend but with all the bad luck you and MM have been having maybe I shouldn't.....
Hope you get Titan going in time. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

I got the replacement cylinder yesterday, and I have assembled the chassis and tested it on steam and it looks promising! Although the crankpins are on the short side and probably only go about 3/4 through the big end - but it will do!
In theory all I have to do now is reassemble the rest of the loco - easier said than done when it comes to Titan! With so much on board everything has to go back in just the right order or bits don't fit.
I still have a bit of work to do to sort the dynamo, make new brackets for the RC servos cos I lost the old ones some time ago, and a few other bits and bobs to fiddle with - its being blinged up with plenty of brass bits!! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!

Blinged up - I recognise that as a technical term for shiney brass , , , look forward to seeing Titan in the brass (flesh) |

Sounds more promising Titan good to hear your pistons fitted on with no trouble (unlike mine ) _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

Well TBH the crankpins are a bit marginal, so wear on the big end could be increased, but for now they work.
Got most of the body back together now, God this loco is a pig to work on - Lots of pipes everywhere - I cursed when I saw that I had forgotton to put the union nut on the steam pipe to the regulator when the body was almost back together again - dismantle to remove boiler so that I can remove pipe, because it can't be done in situ, slip nut over the end and reassemble again
Then I managed to ping the union nut for the pressure gauge in to the far corner of the garage, but I will look for that in the morning as I am getting tired and starting to make too many mistakes...
Still it is coming together - hope to have it in steam by the end of tomorrow! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!

Well titan is 95% completed, and ready for its first test steaming. If it is successful, then the main jobs left to do will be to mend the dynamo and make a new headlamp, fit the radio control (I need to make some new straps to hold the sevos because I can't find the old ones) fix nameplates and a few other bits and bobs and it will be ready!
I have not taken many pictures I am afraid, but for now here is a 'before' and 'nearly after'

Actually I just realised that the angle I took the last photo at is just about the only one where you can see Titans secret whistle!!!
Oh well it does not stay secret for very long - cos its very loud!! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!

Very nice to see, Titan! The dynamo is for the headlamp I presume? _________________ -Chuck

Is it hiding under the RHS tank _________________ Si

Yes the whistle runs the length of the RHS side tank!
And yes I do mean the dynamo for the headlamp (seen on the first pic but not the second)
First test steam moderately successful - had a bad leak on the steam pipe in the boiler but fixed that and it now goes! Still has a number of small leaks here and there which need to be attended to, one on the pressure gauge, and a number of small ones which have appeared on the chassis despite being OK when I tested it seperately - I think nipping up the screws which hold the cylinders on might fix those.
I have not given it a thorough test to judge its performance but at this stage it looks like it will at least go - I think it will need some more work as well as running in before it is back to its previous self, we shall see!
And the brass boiler bands and dome don't half tarnish quickly - out with the brasso again!!! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!
