I'm looking for photos of a bowman loco 234 burner next to a ruler that could be used to help me attempt to scratch build one when my locos arrive in a few weeks time.
If you could also measure the diameter of tubes used on it that would be very helpful aswell.
I'm not sure whether I have the ability to make one but I wont know if I dont try.

I'm at work at the moment will DL when I get home.
My Bowmans should get to my mother in laws house this week then they just need to make that little hop from Durham to Perth Australia. 
Size is not an issue Rolly I have a 16Meg connection at home.

That's interesting, Odilon. I didn't realise there was a removable lead weight in the top. I thought it was just made out of heavy guage steel! Now that I look at it more closely, I can see that it is - except that mine seems to be soldered in.
In mine, there is something inside that moves, although it doesn't seem to be completely loose. Is yours the same? There's a strangely shaped "bump" un the under side and I suspect it is related.

Mine's the same Roly....I expect it is something to do with the "anti leak" system that Bowman describes in one of the catalogues - could be a caged ball bearing or something.

This is interesting and very hard for me to copy if we dont exactly know what it is.
Do you think it is for if its turned upside down to close off the filler pipe to stop it leaking.

Tony, I don't think it is essential to the functioning of the burners, and it's only guesswork until someone cracks one open - maybe Owen on this group knows more?
They are certainly not present in the only current source of reproduction burners.
A much more important refinement is that you get 3 or 4 burner caps, because a 234 on full burner without a load is totally uncontrollable - most I've ever run mine on was 4 burner tubes, and that was with a tender full of lead cutoffs!
As Mike says, they do hold a fair bit of meths, but to date I have had no disasters, even with some spectacular derailments. If you use well-fitting wicks the meths can't really spill out. The one disaster I have heard of is when the plug at the front of the burner tube came out, and the resulting fire was hot enough to desolder the cylinders from the blocks - this was at STiA last year

I've downloaded all the photos and measurements and when I finally receive my loco will have a closer look at them and figure out how I'm going to try and build it.
If I can save myself buying 2 burners at 30 pounds each plus postage that would be great.
