7 cats , 1 dog.
Love both, and anyone who hurts them needs to be strung up by their balls, or, in the female case, (use your imagination) 
On the news a bit back, it showed footage of a man, walking with his bull dog, and he saw a cat on a wall. He picked the cat up, and FED IT ALIVE to the dog, and watched as it ripped it to bits. 
If somebody ever did that to one of ours, we would treat them to a shotgun round or 2!

ITs their instinct to kill for food! The dog could have easily not eaten the cat. Cats kill birds and mice etc. He shouldn't have fed it though

I know, the dog got put down, and so did a load of others, and the owner got locked up for years

I'm not really into pets either.
If I had to choose I'd get a cat though. I'm not a big fan of dogs only due to maintenance and they smell when they get wet
I think regardless of the type of animal, cruelty to it should be dealt with harshly.
