Here's a short vid of my new (to me) Jensen 65 going through it's paces.  (Please ignore the police scanner in the background at the beginning of the video!)

I stripped the paint off a replacement chimney to better match the rest of the firebox, so it looks a bit more complete now.

First a slow speed demonstration (starts from a dead stop!), then a full throttle blast.  She really screams now under full steam!  (Hear my 10 year old inner-child chuckling after the high speed run! )

Then we finish off with a bit more slow speed operation.  I'm really impressed how well this engine runs.....I SO need an electrically heated Jensen next........

At first I had the notion to paint the firebox with hi-temp paint but the aged copper look is growing on me....for now it stays as it is!

It should run as well going the other way. Have you tried it?

Nice slow running, sweet.
No complaints about that one,

Are the Police Calls all digital up there now?

I got a ticket in your fine community once

Gil,

It runs in both directions, but likes running towards the front of the unit best.  I don't know if that's normal or not?

John,

My city is notorious for it's traffic enforcement.  As you mentioned, my entire county shares a digital trunking radio system.  In a way this is good--you can listen to any city you like as the system simulcasts all talkgroups throughout the county.  The only downside is that digital trunking scanners are spendy.  I'm a scanner geek.

Greg, you have to be thrilled with how that has turned out...looks great and runs superbly.

It is common to have Jensens run a bit faster in one direction than the other.  I'm not sure if this is a function of timing (which it can be sometimes)...or more likely the Stephenson's reversing linkage is a bit more efficient in one direction than the other.

I like to adjust my Jensens so they run about 120% in one direction and 80% in the other.  Just a personal preference.

Indeed.  I've found that the smell of Esbit can find it's way from the garage into the house.  Amazing.

Meths is the answer. I am not sure which burner would be the best fit though.
I have a small burner that fits well under my 76 and 85 but is undersized so I have to refill the burner halfway through the run. Still worth the hassle as the smell is not near as bad, plus I run them in the kitchen not the Garage. Of Course the train track is in the Garage.,

Is that the burner I left for you?  I always got about 15 minutes or so with it....

I want to make a slightly longer version of it for the 65.
