I oil everything, these are minor differences Lewis, i'm just trying to figure out how you get 1200 more rpm . My model has been run loads its older than yours _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

GREAT STUFF LEWIS
I think a variation of 500-1000rpm between the same type engines can be expected.
I could imagine too that a MEC1 has a good chance at higher RPM due to lack of exhaust piping.
I'm not feeling too mathematical at the moment so can't work out how much 500rpm is over one second? Very roughly 10rpm?
Anyway I think the following could make fairly noticeable differences in RPM's.
* Amount of oil. I know dripping too much oil on my engines when running causes them too slow.
* Ambient temperature.
* Oil thickness
* Sideways play in the flywheel axle. Too much play can cause engine to vibrate, lowering RPM. My MEC1 kept revving right up, then would vibrate, lower RPM, then rev up etc etc. Washers put in as spacers could help.
* Overall vibration in the engine. My SE3 is the only engine that will run decently without being screwed down. Even so, holding it down it increase the RPM.
There'd be others too, obvious and not so obvious.
I guess in the end, RPM check them as you would normally run them, or do your best to get peak power. I'm going to experiment with the SE3.
As a point of interest, horsepower/torque and RPM checks on cars are done at peaks. Even if it's only for a few seconds.
But tony made a good point to try note both constant and peak. As long as peak isn't ridiculously high due to errors _________________

Lewis is certainly providing some stiff competition. |

I think tightening the trunion screw was key, Lewis...I've seen my engines pick
up speed when I did that, but it required more fire and pressure. I'm sure you
realize these toy boilers can reach the failure point. Good thing there's safety
valves...just be careful, mate.

I don't think it's personal, Lewis. I got the same kind of grief from MM when I posted
my duration runs. I'm sure he'll eventually learn how to go about understanding the
extraordinary in a way that doesn't seem to be an attack on another's credibility. _________________ -Chuck
