I think tightening the trunion screw was key, Lewis...I've seen my engines pick
up speed when I did that, but it required more fire and pressure. I'm sure you
realize these toy boilers can reach the failure point. Good thing there's safety
valves...just be careful, mate.

well the fastest so far is my sp2 with a peak speed of 3437 RPM MM just wont believe it

I don't think it's personal, Lewis. I got the same kind of grief from MM when I posted
my duration runs. I'm sure he'll eventually learn how to go about understanding the
extraordinary in a way that doesn't seem to be an attack on another's credibility.

You must have had the wick really low, and it must have been running slow. The burners don't even last an hour, they simply wern't designed to run that long

I'm not doubting yours did, but it's unbelievable when I look at the Minor's I've fired

It's tough enough to get past 40 minutes with a Minor 1, but my longest was 57:16.
The wick was quite short, both boiler and burner were overfilled and as luck would
have it, both ran out about the same time. When started, it was spitting all over
the place, but kept it's rhythm. There was a slight deviation from factory, too...
my rubber bung had a short stem, displacing a wee bit less fuel.

But that's not the point, MM. There are more tactful ways of approach than
poking at friendly, well-meaning members with your "I doubt it's true" stick.
That's all I'm saying. Except, I forgot to mention what a contientious and
good-hearted guy I otherwise know you to be!

I wasn't poking a stick, calling people liars, I just really wanted to know how Lewis got 1200 more RPM from an engine. Otherwise I'll never know will I?

Lewis came up with a good suggestion about solid fuel. I've seen the newer stuff burn a lot higher than the older stuff. Basically if you never ask you will never know. If I had ignored it then i'd always be thinking 'how did he do that?'

Like-wise with your MM1, i'm not calling you a liar, far, far from it infact. I just wish to know the reasons, scientific reasons why you are getting such excellent times. If everyone took the same attitude of not asking questions and just saying 'well done' we'd never be able to share knowlege, and if we ever did then we'd all be called liars.

I only have good intentions, but most of them were in dis-belief

Would any other UK members like to borrow the RPM meter and try and measure their engines? PM me (and convince me you're trust worthy ) and I'll try to get it sent to you.

Good stuff. SW1 should be interesting, as will the ME1

I've got to do the SE3, MM1, MM2. Maybe SE2

I was thinking of doing that, but thought the same.

Maybe on the pully?

I might try it
