as title do everthing as normal and it wont run at all the ressure is hightand the steam is not getting to the cylinder it is a 58 version

Have you tried removing the cylinder and blowing into the safety valve to see if there is a blockage in the steam pipe?

Are you positive steam isn't getting to the cylinder?

To doubble check, take off cylinder, and check hole isn't blocked, and also with care using a cloth, push the trunion screw to take cylinder away from faceplate whilst under some steam, to see if steam comes out.

If someting is blocked, try blowing through, or use mig welding wire for unblocking.

If not blocked, my guess would be water level could be too high.

Silly suggestion I know, but my SE2 simply will not run if I fill it to overflow. Too high, primes, and generally makes a mess withought running.
My MM2 did the same

Got any access to mig welding wire? That should work.


Take the pipe off too, and check it at the boiler end. The oring in the union nut connection may have squashed/perished, and causing the blockage there.

there is no oring on the union nut plus i had it in bits a few weeks ago

If you can get the pipe off try soaking it in some vinegar if that fails it might be some old oil that has gummed it up.
Try dropping the pipe in some boiling water for a few mins with a length of silicon hose connected to it and the blow through it.

Or the other option just find some fine wire and gentle try to push it through.

the pipe is soldered onto the top of the engine frame so i can fit some wire in without taking it of

its ok no there was a piece of rubber right under the union nut and it was just going inside the pipe its out now

Ahhh, well done mate.

I thought that might be the blockage as not much crap can get into the steam pipes otherwise.

2 SE2's I did could have had a similar prob had I not noticed it. Both had orings that looked like tar

when i et some engine of ebay the boiler undernearth is plastered in black tar from somethink and the cylinders oil is like treacle

i have replaced the o ring so it is very steam tight now and runs well
