A very nice well made engine. The oiler holes for the crankshaft are a nice detail. _________________ Make time to take a step back, and appreciate what you already have. |

Tony, nice to see a Kookabura up close. I have admired them on their website, but the pics are taken half way across a room it seems.
If I recall they are also coming out with a traction engine built to the same tough looking standard...seems like a company going places. Kind of neat to think TWO Aussie companies have chosen to start up in the steam engine trade in the past 5 years...not old firms, but brand new ones. Good for the hobby!
cheers,

| AT $1500 - I wont be buying one. I fear a lot of these wont be steamed too much - the small pic of it looks OK. With £750 to burn Id be looking at a Bowman or something really rare . . . |

Yes I agree my Lady Anne cost me around that much and thats a much more sophisticated engine but they do look nice.
I would of never paid the new price for the overtype Kookaburra but I thought $250 Australian (100 pounds) was a good price for it. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

I will but I havent even fired it yet.
For all the heavy casting and fancy works on it, it has a few things that actually is a bit of a let down in the quality of the machine.
The engine frame is nickle plated but they obviously didnt prepare the metal correctly as it is lifting in places. The flywheel is just a friction fit but unlike Mamods I dont think I would ever be able to remove it if I want to and worse of all the flywheel is cast and when they set it up for machining they didnt take time to centre is correctly so one side of the flywheel is atleast 2mm thicker than the other side so it is badly off balance. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm
