Here is my SL1 running with wagons with homemade loads. One is carrying logs cut from a broom handle, and the other is carrying wooden planks. Standard guards van at the back. The weight really improves the locos stability.

It is from towards the end of it's run, so running a bit low on fuel. Still waiting for that blinking meths burner to arrive!

It seems to slow when going away from the camera and speed up when coming towards the camera.
Is your house leaning over?

The wood planks look good and as you say would stabilise the loco a bit.
My new carriage I've just finished needs some lead underneath it as its too light and bounces down the track.

When running low on fuel, and therefore steam pressure, it tends to slow on the corners, then pick up speed down the straights again.

Very nicely done Chris! Whats the average run time you get? Always good to know what other people get out of their mamods! Did you order the burner from Ip engineering or PPS?

I've not timed it, but only a few minutes. It uses steam quicker than a fuel tablet can heat it up, so it slowly slows down. So I find I get longer runs if I stop it every few laps and let it get pressure up for a few seconds. Then it will run until the fuel runs out (which is one tablet cut into two halves). I start with hot water, and start the run once the safety valve starts opening.

I ordered the burner from IP engineering, along with a safety valve, spacer thing and a water top up valve. E-mailed them to ask where items are and they replied that they have a back order on the safety valves. So shouldn't be much longer. I will do a timed run when I finally get that lot.

Your not the only one among us Chris to have suffered at the hands of IP and late arrivals

you should get a continuous run with meths! I.E no stops and starts!

Yes Ip engineering is total crap for customer service! Use PPS!

Wish I had used PPS now. Used IP as I think they worked out slightly cheaper for the bits. Don't think they will get my return custom though. They wouldn't have said anything if I hadn't asked them why it was taking so long.

It is still good fun though.

Aye! The run really begins when you get the uprated valve and meths burner

My MSS loco runs fine on tablets never had to stop it for it to regain pressure and runs nice and slow, unless it's just great enginemanship

Try pulling some MAMOD rolling stock! Any mamod loco can run on its own on solid fuel
