Ok, I'm not very good with my camera. I'm sure it should take closer pics than I manage but here goes.
This is the sign writing on my engine. Clearly Black shadows on the top of letters. Hope you can see.

I think mine has to be later than yours because of the ridges in the canopy. So I'm now thinking the first sign writing was gold and flat and that mine is a second attempt with more detail added to give depth. _________________ Manx, the mobile man |

Problem with this screws is they are TINY! It's so damn hard to photograph them . I'll have a go in natural light tomorrow! _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

Yep. You're right. Trouble is. As I'm trying to collect all the variations of the TE, this is another model I need. I'm going to give MM a couple of weeks and when he's got bored or looks like he needs model money..... I'll make him an offer. How ever, if he wants to give in now. MM you can just PM me and save us both some time. _________________ Manx, the mobile man |

MM...question for you or others who want to chime in. Could a regulator valve be fit onto a TE1A to give the same throttling down you get on an original TE1?
I ask because I am learning fast that there are TE1's out there for reasonable prices, but they are all in England. Had a line on one today until I learned it would be 60 GBP to ship it to me. Changed my mind fast on an engine that sold for less than that.
What I'm thinking of doing, is picking up a TE1A here in the states where shipping would be on the order of 5-8 GBP to my door. I don't have any great hangups with the more modern TE1A, but I liked the throttle feature on the TE1...just want to add that but cut and splice of a steam line if at all possible on the TE1A. I know it sounds a bit crude, but I can do it tastefully if I have the space.
Thoughts and location where it might work??? If it would work?

Have you considered asking a seller to split up the engine, ie take off parts that are removeable, canopy, scuttle, burner, steering rod , water level plug, safety valve, whistle, even the piston & cylinder & front wheels & send them in two seperate parcels. That way the main part should sneak in under 2kg and can be sent by Royal Mail international signed for for around GPB 15.00 and the smaller parcel less. The main problem with over 2kg is that Royal Mail have contracted the service out to one agent who charges what they like. I've been burnt before,
Good Luck
Cheers

Retro fitting an exhaust throttel on the TE1a would be tricky if you want it to look like the original, a stop cock could be fitted between the exhaust pipe exit and chimney, though two would be needed - tricky indeed! |

Potentially it can be done Rog!
If you see on my TE1 box at the start iof the thread, the regulator would have to be put on to BOTH exhaust pipes and then into the chimney. Would be interesting to see a reversing TE1, that's for sure
It would be possible, could be tricky. It might be worth you waiting for a TE1 in poor cosmetic condition to keep the price down for you _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode
