There we have it folks - all the parts that were previously painted silver have been redone....many thanks to Flywheel for making and providing the decal, Spokesman for the design, and Mamodman and everybody else for their information and support.

As you can tell I've left the brass pretty much alone....I love that "mellow" look.

Happy Moose!

Nah - it's hammerite. I've found that if you cure it properly and then bake it for a few hours it will take a LOT of punishment. I was going to paint it with the normal heat resistant stuff, but the decal wouldn't have done so well on that.

Only one way to find out! The boiler on my Bowman 265 loco is painted with Hammerite, and that is exposed to direct flame....not a mark on it. My Bowman 135 firebox is hammerite as well....that was before I discovered heatproof paint....a bit faded now, but still pretty smart. We'll have to see, I also have no idea how the decal will cope.

I might have to try that The mamod decals darkened when the engine was used, might give it a more "aged" look

Looks great Moose. To echo your success, I used plain old gloss black spray on the
last firebox I did for a homemade engine, baked it an hour or so and it seems fine!

A thing of beauty, but from the house of Moose we've come to expect nothing less.

Superb job...I actually think it looks nicer than the mint SE3 I just sold...the force is strong with this one!!

cheers,
Rog

Well done Mooseman, that's a fantastic job!

I look forward to the decal results too.

Both MM and myself have used Chris's decals on our SE3's, but on the end of the firebox.

So far they have handled steamings really well, no probs

So it'll be good to see one tested on the side of a firebox.
