Yeah, great vid, Roly! That's an old cast iron toy Singer, isn't it?
I sold one on ebay a year or two ago...they're worth some money.

It's not even cast iron. The "body" is a plain sheet of painted steel with the works fixed to it. The base is pressed steel - a bit like Mamods. There's no maker's name on it that I can see and it looks to be hand painted.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been looked after and the feet were heavily rusted. Ive removed the rust to bare metal and I'm considering whether to touch up the paint. It will look odd but it will protect the metal. I can't repaint it completely because there is a hand painted pattern on it. I'm still deciding if I'm going to take it seriously or not.

Nice one Roly

The 101 handled the sewing machine with ease.

Those 101's don't half sound well when running.

They go on sale in kit form at Maplins in October 2027 Roly - I'll pick you one up next time I'm there.

Looking back at the Ebay listing for the sewing machine, I'd forgotten that it said the maker was Ernst Plank. I said there was no makers name on the machine itself, but looking carefully at the oval plate with a magnifying glass, I can just see the initials EP. Also, looking at the paintwork through the same glass, it's obvious that the patterns were done through a template, not buy hand.

I've put some photos on my Fotopic site (go to the bottom of the page):

An EP sewing machine. I didnt know they made that.
Very fitting to be run by a steam toy then.

Seems I may have see one before at John O'Rear's site, but at the moment,
his link to the Plank section isn't working.

EP are well known for their steam engines but they also made toys of all sorts unrelated to steam. You quite often see their "magic lanterns" come up on Ebay. They usually fetch quite high prices as well.

Thanks Chuck. The link seems to have disappeared. I've sent John an Email to see if it was deliberate.
