Hi folks, here's my SE2 finished. Firebox and baseplate have been repainted, as somebody had had a go at that with a big brush, and I've reinstated the exhaust pipe. The decal is a Flywheel61 original!

My goodness Odilon, you do nice stuff....did you work in a auto body shop in another life

A thing of beauty.

Thanks! Halford's "vibrant red".

Im considering repainting the base on my SE1 as the rust looks like its got right under the paint. Having to do the firebox anyways so might as well i suppose. Will keep my eyes peeled!

Thanks guys!

Not quite Rog, although I do have a lot of experience keeping a succession of old bangers more or less roadworthy

I took an awful lot of care with that base....as per usual, through dissatisfaction with a "quick once-over" I'd given it earlier...

Stripped it down with nitromors - there were at least three different kinds of paint on both the box and the base, so I took whatever was left off with a blowtorch. After that - wet&dry, white spirit and elbow grease. Same and Simichrome on the brass parts.

I'm actually very pleased with the results - a couple of evenings pleasantly spent, and my best baseplate yet I think! Must say that "Flywheel61" Chris' decals finish it off brilliantly - they're just absolutely top quality.

Might get around to running it tonight - we'll see!

Cheers,

Moose

Looks really good, MooseMan. Is Vibrant Red a pretty close match?

Sorry, I meant "Radiant Red" - Got the tip from MM when I was doing my SE3. It's a touch on the light side, but if you bake it for a few hours it darkens a little and is a dead match.

Red does!

My 306 has faded a little. The MR2 is always kept in the garage though.

When it gets more faded get a wee bit of G3, lots of water and a polishing mop on it. Will come up like new!

Its like T-Cut for the Hardcore. Its what the garages use to make old faded bangers look like new. Its a bit severe though for mild fading as it more or less takes the top layer off!

A really nice result Mooseman, I'll have to get cracking & finish mine, just waiting on a couple of parts to be made. I agree that painting the inside of the chimney red would put the finishing touch to it.

Cheers

Chris

More likely to be the Fiesta as it's a Ford colour
I used to have an XR3i that colour
Sorry, I know,
