It's a nice machine very nice!
Not seen a canopy without the ribs, mine and Mike's had them? It could be an early one? Look at the picture on the box, the canopy is indeed smooth.
The one in the bible looks to have a totally flat canopy too _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

Forgot to add, all the wheels on the TE1's had little ribs on them. They usually wear away I guess _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

notice how the throttle goes into the chimney on the picture on the box.
my riveted TE1 has the throttle going into the boiler like all I have seen. _________________

Yes, that really does look strange Dauntless It must be one of the very very first I would imagine. I've never seen a boxed one apart from this... so I can't really investigate much further into it at the moment.
There could even been a few Proto-type TE1's around somewhere, maybe the Malins family has one? we'll never know _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

Fanastic model Dauntless. Brilliant box and early graphics, great reference piece. All N&B TE1s had smooth canopies -
yours has the curious 'turned' marks on the rear wheels too - (ribbing).
The best TE1 I have seen in a very long while.

Have you got the steering rods?
You will notice the canopies were going to be black, looking at the illustration, a certain amount of licence went into the illustration at the time, they were kind of retouched drawings/photographs. Look at an early SE3 box and see the minor changes to the final engine compared to the picture on the packaging. |

The one I had wasn't smooth, i'm sure, so it's not all Mike.
The '62 ones must have had ribbed ones!! I believe mine was slightly later! but was in good condition!!! _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

That is one super engine, bet you are thrilled to bits with that one
Does not look like it has had much use, you can still see the green paint in the firebox.
Are the rear wheels narrower than the standard TE1 wheels?
The box graphics are very interesting, especially the routing of the exhaust throttle. _________________ Make time to take a step back, and appreciate what you already have. |
