After showing the recent large hull i bought recently that measures 130cm x 40 cm . i decided to gather all progress pictures and reports in one thread.
Here are the pictures of the original hull as i received it. Clearly whoever built it was planning to make it into a ship model of some sort as he had already started to make to top deck.
I have now sawed off the cross beams and removed the top deck. Then i sanded the base which had only been partly sanded and particularly the keel that was still in raw form.
This is how it looks now.
More pictures to follow as i go along. _________________ See pictures and videos of my collection:

Plank on frame build is not an easy build, looks like a good job.
I have always been advised to use a fibre glass cloth / resin internal on the wood to prevent leakage and any movement of the wood planks & frame.
Just use a clear resin on the wood if you want to keep wood on show
Plus this improves the over all strength of the hull and a must if fitting a steam plant. Definitely worth considering before fitting top deck. |

Very correct, i will be coating the inside with resin . The outside will get a few layers of boat varnish too so the woodwork will be visible through the layers. _________________ See pictures and videos of my collection:

Yes that is exactly what i wanted to do but i noticed that they are all roughly glued on the inside of the boat i will have to cover them completely up since they look terrible with old glue splashed all over. I dont think the original maker bothered to glue the bottom neatly since he planned to close it all up.
I will be making a new deck on top of them to cover the existing base .
In the resulting space (hulrum) i will put my ballast iron rods to make to boat sink a bit as it is too light as the moment. _________________ See pictures and videos of my collection:

Picture update.
-I drilled the hole for the position of the rudder.
-I have ordered a 70mm propeller and a new prop shaft and axle + couplings.
I stained the wood last week and applied 3 coats of epoxy on the outside of the hull, over the last 2 days allowing for intermittent drying.
I have also made the rudder and coated it also with 2 coats of epoxy.
Now to wait a few days for them to dry
Slow but steady. _________________ See pictures and videos of my collection:
