This having different names for the same taps might lead a British fellow astray when reading build threads I've written.
Here, the taps are taper, plug, and bottom. You can use a plug tap to start any hole with no trouble at all. It's a bottom
tap (here) that you can't start a threaded hole with. It's almost completely flat on the end and you simply can't start
it without first using a taper or plug tap. Our plug tap here won't cut to the bottom of a hole. We use a bottom tap for that.

This is very interesting. It's possible I have the names wrong (if so, I'm sorry for confusing matters ). It would be interesting to get the opinion of some experienced people on this side of the pond.
The important thing to remember is that there are three different types, whatever they are called, and the safest bet is to get all three for each size. _________________ Regards

I don't think you're wrong, Roly. Looking at the TapDie website, which is in your neck of the woods, it shows different
names for the taps we have here. It seems we call different things by similar names. (Like biscuits.)
We (in the USA) say;
Taper
Plug
Bottom
And in the UK it looks like;
Taper
Second
Bottom/Plug
So, it's just a mash up trying to figure out what is what between us. _________________ Filled with a vacuum...

Can i say that here , in the land down under , we call them
Taper , Intermediate and Plug ..... or sometimes , Bottoming Tap .
Also i would recommend the use of a good quality cutting fluid , even on Brass . _________________ Demon Industries ... the quiet achievers !

Yes that's what I call them when I buy my good quality HsS taps that are made in the UK.
Must drive the importers made. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Hi everyone,
Today I got around to drilling and tapping the cylinder. I brought a proper M4 HSS tap as the Chinese taps I have look like they are made out of plastic and I just can't trust them!
I also did a bit more to the crank and turned part of it down so the hole for the M3 grubscrew is ready to be drilled, tommorow Ill set it up offset in the lathe and drill the hole for the crankpin.

Going good, Ross. I'm getting curious about the end result but bit by bit does it _________________ Et in Arcadia Ego

Your parts really are looking good, Ross. Most first builds don't get near the attention to finish as you've
given yours. You're doing well! Keep it up. _________________ Filled with a vacuum...
