Here's my Cyldon 13/3. I'm sure it's not as shiney as Sandy's will be , but here it is anyway!

This is the eBay picture. No safety valve, dodgy copper chimney, and all the aluminium panels a bit bent.

There was something rattling in the boiler, which, after a bit of poking, turned out to be the spring and threaded rod parts of the missing safety valve. I re-used these together with a couple of bits that I made. First I found a bolt of the right size to fit the valve threads, cut it to a suitable length, and drilled a hole through the middle of it to take the threaded rod. This bolt is made of some kind of modern vaguely yellowish alloy, and if I can find a brass one of the right size I'll replace it! Then I found a piece of brass rod of the right diameter to make the top part of the valve. I put it in my drill chuck and shaped it with files, just as I did when I made the Bowman oiler tap. Lastly I soldered the threaded rod into a hole drilled in the base of the top piece. Here's the result, on the left is a proper Cyldon valve from my 13/1, and on the right is the one I made.

The chimney was fairly straightforward to make using my usual methods of anealling followed by hammering that I've described before.

Originally this engine would have had four rubber feet held on by the four large rivets in the corners of the base. These were missing, but I managed to rescue the rivets. The aluminium base is quite soft and easily bent, so I decided to cut a piece of MDF to fix to the bottom of the base to stiffen it, and to do the job that the rubber feet would have done. I painted the MDF with black spray paint so that it wouldn't show at the edges, and I attached it to the base with double sided tape. Purists mightn't approve, but I think it works well, and it really doesn't show.

Here's some more pictures... I've got a new camera so I hope they're an improvement on my previous efforts.

And here it is with its brother the 13/1

A really top job there, Steve.

I must make a start on mine. It (only?) needs a chimney, and S/V repair.

Nice one Steve, I wouldn't of picked your SV as a home made one. Great job as usual.
