This was a test designed to demonstrate the feasibility of running a steam locomotive on the London Underground for its 150th anniversary next year. There are passenger trips planned.

Brilliant clip! I assume you work there? Hope the runs can go ahead as LT ran steam right into the 70s so would be good to see them do it again.

Not long visited the excellent LT museum in Convent Garden and have tickets for the next open day at Acton, so keep us posted if you know more!

Thanks Miles, all we need to do, is to get rid of all the OH&S stuff, and all go into period costume,

Cheers

They must have done that during "engineering hours" at night while the traction current was switched off. The yellow loco at the end is, I think, a battery powered loco... just in case. There must have been a huge amount of red tape and paperwork to allow that to happen!

Yes, it was around 1 am when they did this. I hadn't thought about switching the current off - good point!

That first class carriage looks splendid. I shall certainly get tickets if they plan goes ahead.

I was a driver on the Met and Circle lines in the late 80's: I met one of the Metropolitan 'Growler' locos -maybe even the one in the video- coming towards me in the tunnel...I could tell straight away that it wasn't a regular A60 or C69, which were about all you ever saw down there...and yes, it actually growled as it passed me!  I would love to drive one of those, but I think they only went out when the managers wanted to have a play day, plebs like me weren't let anywhere near them!

Regards,

John.

Steam looks great but us old Hornby boys would have been immediately drawn to Sarah Siddons the class which provided the model for Hornby's first electric loco, I'm still on the look out for one of those. Anyone know which station that was filmed at?
Cheers
Dave
