Your D32 is great of course, but I'm also very impressed by what I take to be a 1950s Goblin Teasmaid (or similar) in the corner |

Apologies if I'm being particularly dense, but am I right in assuming that the somewhat complex nature of the references is reminiscent of such a scenario? If so |

There are youngsters on this forum, so I won't repeat the story. Suffice it to say it has to do with Goblin Teasmaids and visits to a 4 star hotel hoping to get the extra star. I'm sure you've heard it _________________ Regards

I didn't know (honesty). I left the sceptered isle fairly early and after some time in London moved to Afghanistan (cheaper than South Kensington) and eventually ended up in Iran. Anyway, fast forward to my being arrested in Doğubayazıt, Turkey ( in the late 1960s) as a Soviet spy (not guilty) in the shadow of Mount Ararat and of Kim Philby. As I was being interrogated by the colonel in charge, I particularly remember seeing a Teasmaid in the corner of the room (hence the impact).
Anyway, when I finally got to Moscow and was taken personally to Lenin's tomb (the Turkish encounter clearly helped my reputation) he still looked pretty dead to me. I hadn't even thought of a Teasmaid until now. Thanks for your comment -- casual or not -- it was important for the memories it stirred (and a chance to air them). |
