The problem with this steam engine collecting thing is that you keep running out of space. So now, this morning, I've had to start building over my PC to make space for my new steam bus.
I keep asking one of the kids to leave home, so I can have a 'hobby room' but they just stay around. Only joking.

This is great, Would you be able to identify the rollers on the 3rd shelf and the traction engines on the 4 th please. Also the rollers on the lower shelf of the 2nd cabinet. I can see a cranko roller i think. How many years did it take to build this collection up. Bloody amazing |

Hey Manx...stunning collection and superb looking shelving. Just hope you don't get any ground tremors where you live
A construction thought for you on your computer shelf extension. The left most front "leg" which sort of sits in the middle of your desk could be moved rearward to free that space once again. Just cut that leg where it meets the first shelf, and make a slightly longer piece of wood to extend at an angle from the rear desk surface up to the corner of shelf just cut. The angled "leg" will be just as strong, but gets it out of the way. I used that technique on my workbench construction so I didn't have legs hitting my knees when seated...works perfectly and bench still remains strong enough to stand on.
cheers,

Thanks for the comments. I think I've done pics of all of these mobiles since we've been on the forum. As for what's what. I know what most of them are (but a few I'm still looking for the maker).
The small set of shelves are in a downstairs room and is all early (ish) German stuff. The bottom row of the small unit has two Doll engines (left / middle) and a Fleishmann engine. The grinder / polisher is Doll and dates well with the Doll models and again the figure is Fleishmann and is a close date for the Roller.
The middle shelf is a Marklin Roller and then 2 Bing engines.
The top shelf has my Steam Car (that I think is Carette) along with a Carette Grinder, two Plank tools and a man made by Becker. _________________ Manx, the mobile man

The big shelves are all Mamod on the top row, Three Rollers and then my TE collection. The space at the end is for a missing piece that I will one day get to help cover my full (ish) TE history.
The next shelf starts with my Mamod buses, then a Weeden Traction Engine, then Mamod and Wilesco fire engines, then Mamod Roadsters.
The third shelf starts with a pair of Wells Traction Engines, then the whole middle shelf is of unknown makers, the final shelf is again Mamod Roadsters.
The forth shelf starts with a pair of unknown Rollers but the second one has some very Bassett Lowke type bits, the middle shelf is a Hielscher (mini-steam) Steam Car, a Gakken Steam Car, Mastrand Roller, Butcher Roller, Auld Roller and Cranko Roller, and to finish again Mamod Le Mans and Limo
Next shelf, Mss Steam Van, Mamod Steam Van and PO Van, Mamod Steam Wagons
And the bottom shelf, Unknown pig of a Roller and then a Wilesco Locomobile, two Wilseco Rollers, Wilesco Showmans and three Wilesco Traction Engines.
And that's it. My whole collection. Built over quite a few years but really worked on for about the last eight. _________________ Manx, the mobile man |
