loving it. just waiting on a displacement lube to finish it off and have another marvin now need a name for the sl1k |
How are you pistons going. I fiitted the O ring upgrades to my SL1K Pandora. She also has a new high pressure boiler with regulator and uprated safety valve and meths burner. But the pistons are really tight and the thing won't move now. Is this normal and just in deed of running in?

the springs on the new cylinders for me are an overkill! IT should move even if its a bit stiffer. Use the old springs and it goes real well, just stretch the springs a bit and it's fine! _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

When I spoke to the guy at IP engineering about the new mamod loco he said he had some problems with the ones he had principally with the wheelsets which seemed pretty fragile. But once running he said they ran very well |

tried mine with the stand ard springs streched as u sugested mm and it just pissed water every where so went back to the supplied springs and just ran it for hours on blocks and now its fine. also i laped the faces. I have a kit that is use for lapping glass fiber connectors and has extreamly fine paper . did a test lapping and it showed how un even the surface of the cylinder assebly is.
done both side on the lapping board whis is a piece of high quality flat glass for suporting the paper. now there are no leaks and the piston runns great

Running in seems to be the key for these Locos. Mamodman was the savior for my SL1K which I can only assume was never run as it was terrible when I received it.
Now it is a very strong performer. That's a lovely track layout you've got there G-J. What track is that you've used - surely not all Mamod as that would be expensive?? _________________ Chuff chuff!! |

I don't think many of these locos were fired that much! People probably tried it once and away it went for another year and so on.... _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode
