I know these are a little larger than Mamod size stuff, but i've posted this photo following requests from some of you (& also permission from Sir James).
If you don't like the big stuff, look away now!
Here are 3 NGG16 class Garratts at the South Arbury Railway on 'Garratt Sunday - 2007'.
They have all been made by John Brittain & are coal fired.
To bring the balance back - photos of one of my TE1a's will be up shortly!
Chris.

Although you referred to these as the big stuff, it amazes me that something so small can be made to be coal fired.
Anyone ever try and convert a TE1a or similar to be coal fired?
I'm going off topic maybe, but what is the smallest coal fired engine? A converted Edrig? _________________ Chris

I have seen a 16mm scale loco about the same size as a mamod coal fired - it had a grate one inch square! It required very careful attention to ensure the fire did not go out, size of coal and amount of blower were critical, but it did go quite well and of course had that wonderful smell!
You can get coal fired boilers to fit the Edrig, which may well then be the smallest comercially available coal fired loco.
To get coal to work in this scale a proper firebox and firetube boiler is probably essential, as well as a blower to draw the fire - Not an easy task on a Mamod. Wether it could be done for a Mercer I don't know! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!
