I`ve been borrowing my son`s old, tired/ unwanted digital camera for Photobucket engine vids, and it`s just died!
I need a replacement, now.
Any camera capable of recording short, decent digital videos.
And CHEAP!!!
Anyone any ideas?
Who recommends what? Who`s got what for sale?
S/Hand off Ebay is fine. But I need to know a camera make/ model which is fit for purpose.
And CHEAP!! _________________ David.

David, all my videos are shot with a Canon Powershot A70 digital camera - you can pick one up on eBay for about £30. It'll only do 30secs of video at the time though. _________________ Stands the glass half empty,

Thanks, Odilon. I hoped you would reply.
I was impressed by the "roadster" vid you sent to me.
Later on, you posted your camera details, so I watched several on Ebay. Then Michael lent me his old one......
I really felt a little cramped by it`s 30sec vid time and would like a little longer if possible, this time. _________________ David.

David, is it an A70 you are using now? If so, what's the problem with it? If the images have suddenly gone all distorted (same's happened on mine), Canon will probably fix it for free - it's a known issue with the wiring on the CCD. _________________ Stands the glass half empty,

I have been using a Canon Powershot A550 and the video length is limited by the size of the memory card, I have a 1 gig card and it can go for over 5 minutes with space to spare. You can find them on Ebay for under $100
7.1 MP and a real easy to use camera. might keep you eyes open for one, many people seem to buy a new camera every time a new model comes out and recent models are not too costly on Ebay.
No mines not for sale, but though I would pass the info along. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Thanks, John. That`s another one to put into my Ebay searches.
I have an Olympus mju 300 for pic duties.
This does wrinkly vids, in silence.
My phone cam hasn`t the picture quality.
I need something CHEAP to do the job properly, and to buy a known ok performance camera. _________________ David.

We have a Canon powershot A410.... or something... a 4MP digital elph.
Vids top out at 3mins in length and you can't zoom while doing vids and it's bad if you want to do both close up and distance (as in 1.5feet or more away) shots in the same clip, as normal mode is what you need for distance, and macro mode to get in close. depth of field is rotten in macro mode, though...
I'm looking for a better camera myself I see the fujifilm S700/S800 are relatively cheap, and have nice big lens with high rates of optical zoom. No idea how the viddy mode is on it though...
I should buy one for xmas and return it if I don't like it. Costco is good that way
They've also got a Sony DSCH7 but it's a lot more...
Don't want to divert your thread, though. For basic viddy, the Canon powershot line works okay. Don't know if the newer ones are better or worse than mine. Mine's a good 4 years old now and half knackered.
Can't say I like the proprietary battery pack either.
If you want to see raw video quality as youtube processes it, check my videos that DON'T have titles. Those ones are straight from the camera to youtube. The others have been through movimaker and reencoded/compressed into WMV format, and that gives a quality hit I've noticed _________________

Howe about one like mine? It's £50, so not cheap, but it's a really really good camera, unless you want to take pics when there is not much light. _________________ Forum Founder, Owner and Admin.

Mine does sound, it zooms when doing movies and I just checked, I am limited to 7 and 1/2 minutes with a 1 gig memory card. All of my friends that own the same model have 2 gig cards. 7.1 MP for stills, which are way too big for the web. I saw one go from $68 to 100 on Ebay some are more right now, but that is the Pre Christmas bidding frenzy on Ebay. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Yes thankyou, young man!
Years ago a photographer friend of mine used Vivitar cameras for snapshot duties.
If they were ok then.......
There`s a 5388 on Ebay now.
Thanks, everyone for your recommendations, they`re now in my Ebay favourites.
There might just be enough time before Christmas. _________________ David.
