The more I read about the various figures, the more examples I see that are really in poor condition but still valued parts of a serious collectors collection. I am now of the thought that maybe if the damage is only minor, to leave it as is. A little paint flaked off only shows that it isnt brand new and that it did see some use. That one is in such good condition that the touch up would only look out of place and detract from the fine example that it is. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Nice Blacksmith. Looks great except for the minor paint wear on the arms. Throw the paintbrush away. It's great as is. _________________ Richard

| I'll take some closeups of the arms to show you why I want to repaint them. |

They are a little thin.
Why does the left arm move, along with what he's holding? |

I love the little handle, you don't even need an engine to power him.
John, I still feel his arms could use a repaint.
They are chipped/flaking and after the paint, it wouldn't even be noticeable. It would also keep the tin rust free:

I wouldn't touch it with paint at all, maybe look at the rust preventive stuff but only if was a clear finish. _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

I'll leave it for awhile, but I really think it needs a re-paint.

Very cool, Nick. I like the gearing on it. _________________ -Chuck

Seriously, dont paint it, it isnt brand new and although not a highly expensive collectible, it will be some day and the paint will only detract from it at that time. If it was covered with rust and very little paint at all on it things might be different, but that one is too nice to mess with. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

I will leave it for now.
What can I do to protect the areas with paint loss? |

I have rtead that some coat them with WD 40, IMHO if you store it in a dry place nothing should need to be done. How dry is your basement? _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

I won't use WD-40.
My basement is very dry (dehumidifier in use).
This one isn't in my basement though, it's out on display. |

As long as you dont abuse it, it should do just fine left as is.
I was reading in the Toy Steam book how some people use Jubilee poilish on theirs, that stuff goes for about $30 for a 2 oz bottle and probably doesnt do that much in fact. That is also where the WD was mentioned. I think that would only be if you were in a humid place. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |
