Are we still going to have a dragster race at STIA?

Do you think we will need to draft up a set of rules if thats the case?

As far as I know we are.

I thought it was first past the post wins.

Well yeah...but like the engine can't be modified

But be able to fit a standard meths burner to a SP3

If one will fit then I do not see why not as the MEC1 have them.
Are you going to build a car then??

I look forward to seeing the progress on it.

Any progress guys?

Well, I hope you'll be ready in time for the race, because I've got a truck in the shop right now.

Will you guys be running them at STIA?

I tried mine with drive bands (I don't have any chain right now), it drove a little, but they were slipping.

Here's what I've got so far (now time to add some extras like fenders etc.)

It may look heavy with all that metal, but most of it's aluminum:

Working steering wheel (and a little bench seat )

I guess it will have to be 2wd when turning (I'll save 4wd for drag racing )

Very nice Nick but looking at it you will definitely be better off changing to chain drive.

I think I might have some chain, but I'll have to find it.

Looking at the others, is all Meccano tin?

I really like the aluiminum pieces in my erector sets. They're extremely light weight and easy to straighten as my sets are all pretty beat up. (Which I guess happens to stuff that's 60-70 years old)

The trouble with chain is it has a habit of flying off at awkward moments. Or it stretches slightly but just enough.

If you are still planning speed trialling steam cars at STIA  you do need to make some definite arrangements with the organisers. I don't want a series of high speed misguided missiles mixing it with my paying spectators. They can sue you know if they think they have been injured.
