hello, my real name is Clinton Taylor. I've enjoyed steam since the early 1980s. my first experience with steam was my dad's RENOWN oscillating single cylinder steam engine. I lost interest towards the end of the 1980s, but then my interest came back when I brought myself a Wilesco D10 in 1990.

I'm 36 years of age.

Thanks for that Clinton.
My introduction into toy steam was my Grandfathers Renown back in about 1986.

Clinton...that is pretty neat that both you and your fellow Aussie Tony got the steam bug via a Renown Engine. I have never seen one up close and personal, only in pictures...but they look to be built like the proverbial brick s**thouse.

Glad you are part of our forum, we enjoy your pics and videos of steam not often available in the UK or US.

cheers,
Rog

Unfortunately they are not Rog.
They have a nice solid cast iron base and brass flywheel but the boiler and fireboxes are made from thin brass sheet and the engine frame is way too light weight for my liking but saying that I own 3 Renowns now.
As I side note I've just noticed my wife has let my son play with my working model and he has managed to unscrew the top of the whistle and misplace it, so guess what I'm going to be doing tomorrow....playing find the missing whistle part.

Hi Clinton, your first brush with steam was a renown? Now, that is real pedigree I would say you are doomed for a life-long case of steamitis.

Hi Clinton. It's good to here about you, and the way you started in steam It often seams to happen that the bug returns after a dormant period... and then you're stuck with it!
