The swarf is a little overscale, also it should be on the floor as any self respecting tradesman would have swept it off the work area. Ask your self why is it there?.

I suggest separating the larger swarf from the filings and dust.

To stick it down try diluted PVA just like model rail ballast.

I Am going to put some filings on the floor don't worry!

I should have a line shaft soted tommorow fingers crossed. It will take an age to post though

I got some unjoined drivebelts in rainy Edinburgh today!

I really like the look of this!    I had great fun building my little dioramas & found ideas popped into my head as I went along. Sawdust was easy & just used a rasp/file on some soft wood. (Might be possible to do likewise to create smaller swarf?).  'Logs' were made from suitable small branches etc. etc. And agree that diluted PVA glue worked wonders for sticking everything down invisibly.
Keep up the good work.

Only just seen this thread, nice project Ross   .

I have a jar of aluminium filings in my shed and am happy to send you a satchet if you like, the filings are pretty fine

That lineshaft is just about perfect.

Quick polish with some pan scourer and it should be ready to go, the painted parts look great.

This is looking so good - GREAT WORK

I look forward to seeing it up and running

I got It just about done!

Burnmafingers sent me the filings and they came just as I was working on it!

I will be testing it on steam tomorrow!

Here are the metal and wood tables:

Here are them all togheter!

BTW: Can someone tell me if the metal stamper is mounted the wrong way around I have my suspicions!

Ross

That is looking nice! Good job, Ross.
Only thing I would do is mount the lineshaft upside down, in the ceiling. The lineshaft is mounted on the base with screws, right? Unscrew them, make a beam that looks like a part of a ceiling and mount the lineshaft upside down so it looks like if the lineshaft is under the ceiling, like the real workshops did (as far as I know..).

Just a thought,

Tim.

Looks great

The steel parts weigh about a scale tonne each - proper industrial

There is some precedent to have a ground mounted shaft. Its certainly not "wrong" to do so.

The metal stamper can go either way round, it is your choice.

I am suprised that you did not spread them out a bit more.
