I have only one desire for next year, (apart from aquiring a MM1 for restoration), I want to own a mamod loco, but where to begin, so a bit of advice is needed here me thinks, ebay is probably where I will look, what should I be looking out for, are there any pitfalls _________________ No dear I have not sneaked another engine in on a recomendation from my forum mates, its new rolling stock, what a silly mistake for you to make! |

Mamods are great little fix-e-upey locos, but if you want something that works fantastic off the mark you want a Roundhouse or Accucraft loco. _________________ The Woodrow story

For the money, the New Mamod Train is the best Loco there is, Gas Fired and already fitted with a regulator. Gauge 1 or 32mm are available. IF one was to have just one Mamod Loco I think that would be it. _________________ Non Impedite Raditioni Cogitationis |

But I think they would agree with "For the money, the New Mamod Train is the best Loco there is"...which is what John said _________________

For the Money Pauly at under 200 pounds it is in a class by itself.
Since when did Accucraft, Roundhouse, PPS make Mamod Locos anyhow? All kidding aside do they have a new gas fired Loco with all of the features for under 200 pounds? _________________ Non Impedite Raditioni Cogitationis |

They were origionally £169.99, now they are £199.99 so technically under £200, but only just _________________

I'd look for a used IP Jane or go for the new Mamod Train, For under £200 the new Mamod Loco is fantastic value, Roundhouse or Accucraft can't offer anything similar in terms of value for money performance. _________________

Most of the old style Mamod and MSS locos require some tweaking to get running well, but saying that if you can find one cheap go for it.
As Pauly says Accucraft and Roundhouse locos are fantastic.
I have one of each.
But they are considerably more expensive than Mamod locos.
If you can afford 200 pounds for the new Mamod loco, get one.
Else keep an eye out for a second hand one.
They can be had for 70 to 100 pounds, but expect to do some work on it. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

I'd keep an eye out for an older Mamod loco, preferably one that can be seen to be running. With a few easy modifications you can have a great little loco at fairly low cost. _________________ Nid wy’n gofyn bywyd moethus,
