Following my recent information on repairing endcaps. I have now repaired a SP1 end cap with water level sight glass. The only difference in this case was to cut the disk as previously described then mark up the sight glass hole. This is situated on a slightly raised lip inside the cap. Drill two/three holes in th disk and use a file to make a oblong opening which sits over the raised oblong rib.
Once this is done the copper disk will be in contact with the end cap body and will cover the rivet holes.
Clean the inside of the brass cap/the copper disk and put flattened solder beneath the disk. flux it all replace end cap making sure sight opening is upright and apply heat. Once the solder runs press firmly down on the boiler and reuinite the end cap. Once cooled off you will have too holes to drill for the rivits holding the sight glass on. The rivits will now pass through the copper plate and will provide a much stronger and firmer bite on the sight glass end cover,
