last night I was runnng torak and she was going to fast and I was running behind her with my face above the coaches so I didnt get the safety valve in me face (its happened before ) and as she was approaching a curve to quickly I tried to slow her with the regulator but just as she rounded the corner (now picture this in slow motion) 1 of the coaches went onto 2 wheels and caught something which caused the engine to jerk off the track but because the engines stopped going forward I kept going and stopped just above the safety valve now just as that happened the engine lands off the track causing the water in the boiler to slosh about causing the safety valve to prime right in my face OUCH well more of a shock than an injury but it scared the hell out of me and I was wondering if any steam related accidents have happened with anybody else on here. _________________ knowledge is power

When i was net to steam i restored once a carette engine.
I did not have glas for the water gauge, so i took a thic plastic tube...you can almost guess the rest
The fire came a little bit out of the firebox and melted the plastic tube! A big shot of water went all over my desk, luckily did not injure myself + the waterjet blew out the fire, so noting else happened
But sure was a shock, and from that on i never tried to rebuild something with plastic on a steam engine! _________________ ....."Remember: It's Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con"..... |

I had a brand new Wilesco D10 and the piston shot across the room on the first firing. No real harm, but sure scared the daylights out of me, sounded like a gun going off. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

I tripped while carrying a lit burner the other night.
The meths flowed from the burner onto my hand. To avoid dropping the burner, I carried it over to a safe place with a flame burning on my finger. It hurt a little, but it could have been worse. |

Please do not attemp to do this at home
there was a bang and the wick got shot out like a bullet, went across my room and landed...alight and behind my shelf
That was one of my non-inteligent moment.... _________________ ....."Remember: It's Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con"..... |

The worst I've done is touch a hot part on th engine and quickly pulled my hand back before I got burnt...but in repairing engines I've twice tried to pick up a part I have just soldered before it had cooled and both of those times it did leave a mark. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Well, once when running my D21 a fire got started on the cloth rag underneath the engine, I got lucky I saw it quickly or it could have melted the base and really done damage. Picked the engine right up and blew it out
Second time I ever ran my SR1a the flywheel flew off and rolled down the drive way, no danger there, but scary as the engine takes off at insane speed without it. THe same thing happened on my Mamod steam car but the flywheel was still on, just not screwed on all the way |

Every time I fire the Girth Fleischmann I end up setting me hand on fire with the meths. Ask David (SD) cos he was there last time I steamed it up, meths went all over the engine, all over the table, and all over me hand
