You dont run beside the small ones anyway. Considering you are experianced at driving your loco (took me about 10 runs to get used to it). When you get to know the loco you can set a nice train behind it and set a good speed and leave it for 10 minutes, then stop it top up with water and meths and let it go again

Well thats what i do anyway

I agree SJ, I have no real gradients were I set my track up so for my Mamod just choose a speed I want it to run at and leave it.

I tend also now to know where i want the regulator for differant gradients etc

In a way there more skill in setting it to run unatened for 10 minutes than chasing it
