|
|
A while ago I received a vap burner with my SR1 that was in bad shape.
The handle was bent, the top painted silver, the bottom had flaking paint and I think someone had burnt solid fuel on top of it or had painted the mesh and the paint burnt so half the holes were blocked.
As I received it.
I pulled it apart and cleaned up the mesh with W&D and put it in a burner I had that was in better condition but was missing the mesh.
The rest of the burner sat to one side until I could get more mesh.
A week or so ago Wallace gave me a large amount of stainless steel termite barrier mesh.
Today was the first day in 15 days when it was forecast not to rain so last night I removed the wadding, rust and flaking paint and treated the metal with rust converter.
First thing this morning I painted it with VHT gloss black engine enamel and 30 minutes ago it just finished curing in the oven.
After trips to 2 different Chemists today I managed to buy a roll of cotton wool, so just cut a rectangle of that out, rolled it up and put it in the burner.
Cut a rectangle of mesh and then fixed the top back on and folded the lip back over with a hammer and a scrap block of wood and this is the result.
Not perfect but very much usable.

What a difference Tony.
Well worth doing.
Excellent job.
You now have a perfectly serviceable burner that looks the part as well. _________________ Ouch! Where's the burn cream

I'm getting good at fixing and making burners now.
The next burner to make is a twin tube one for my Luton PW203 or maybe another small round one for my OZ verticals. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Wow, that has come up very nicely Tony. Well done.
Good to see no pinholes turned up during the resto of it.
I know one I had, which had appeared to have acid spilt on/in it, well when I pulled the wadding out, bits of rust pulled out, leaving holes in the side of the burner
Then when cleaning it up, more holes arrived _________________
