I have taken a liking to the mamod steam wagon and almost bought one instead of my steam car. I wish I would have just bought the steam wagon. So instead of buying one I decided to make one form my wilesco steam roller. Yes its crazy turning this

into this

But I love the mamod steam wagon looks and love the power that my steam roller has. So my plan is to make front and back wheels from wood. Make a whole new frontend from fibregalss. And make a dumping bed in the back that I can operate manually. as for power I will use the gear and clutch system that wilesco has generously provided, and then have chains going to the back wheel to gear it up to make it go faster.I will eventually add radio control to the throttle, steering and dumping bed when I can get the money. This steam wagon will be about 20 inches long, 6 1/4 inches wide and about 8-9 inches in height.Wish me luck, pictures will be coming soon.

Sounds great The Mamod steam wagon is pretty well known for low speed and not great torque and power.

Will be really great to see, and with the remote controll You can start a racing circuit

Yeah weighing in at about 4 pounds its probably has trouble pulling itself with no load, the wilesco steam roller will pull 22 pounds so an extra 1/2 pound should be no trouble at all. I have the Mamod Live Steam Toy Catalogue and have been looking at the steam wagon in there( gets pretty addicting) . It gives weight height and all kinds of otherstuff that I can use. By nature the wilescos are bigger than the mamods So instead of 17" like on the mamod mine will be close to 20".
I will put some pictures tomorrow.

When looking at the Catalogue you start to think "well I can build that" heres where I ended up

Ranger, I just fixed the links to your pics.

Were missing [IMG] from the start, so they weren't working at all.

Good plan though

Heres more pics, Now I'm on the wheels. I drilled out a hole whith the holesaw and then drilled out another hole with a bigger holesaw, thats how I made the rims. The spoke material is at home when I get home I will work on it more. I made 1 set of front wheels and 2 sets of back wheels. The front set is 2 1/4" by1/2 plywood and the back is 2 7/8" 1/2" plywood and the other set is 2 7/8" 3/4 inch plywood.

I'm not sure, Its probably harder than that.

I've been thinking that I should give the back frame more support because it has to hold the whole weight of the engine, so thats my next task after the wheels.

I'd be tempted to use the mamod rear wheels! They are pure class

Ranger, you are one creative guy and not afraid to give most anything a try. I know this is going to look good and run well when you finish.
