Yea, that Doll Roller is a model 505 and seems to be quite rare. Doll had three Rollers in their range in the 1930's. Two of them were taken on into and through the War by Fleischmann (504 and 506) but this model was left behind. Although Doll made a catalogue in 1937 it seems very likely that lots of the steam engines listed had already stopped being made.

To be honest, I do like my collection. I think a time comes with a collection when it begins to focus in one direction. Over time you end up looking for set engines that are needed to fill spaces and enjoy each purchase a little bit more.
My collection is clearly mobiles and since being on the forum I've been able to collect models from other parts of the world with help from forum members.
Their are still loads of gaps and makers I'd like to get examples of but that's part of the fun.
One of the bits I like best about the forum is when people show off their whole 'steam family'. It's great to see just how different each of our collections can be. And that's part of the fun.

Thanks for the extra comments. My next engine is going to be something a bit special (I hope). Tony is helping me with a steam wagon from NZ. It is sold as a scratch built (but that often means unknown maker) and is a copy (ish) of a Sentinal type steam lorry.
It should be with Tony in the next couple of weeks. Then we get loads of pics and then about another 4 weeks (ish) to get to me.

| Amazing collection Its certainly the largest collection of mamod traction engines I have ever seen. Do you steam many of them or are they for display? I have to say, despite some of my misgivings about the showmans engine I really do want one, they just look great |

To be honest. I have some for running and some for collecting. I could never run them all and don't mind leaving some of them un-fired.
I'm glad you like the Showman's. I'm not to sure myself about it or if it really worth spending that much more money than you could spend on good TE. My own view is that the Wilesco Showmans is better, but each to his own.

Hi Manxman, your steam truck was built by a chap who uses the name steamcraft when making engines but he dosen't write it on the model. He has built many stationary engine over the last 7 or 8 years and i believe he has a lot of cranko casting which he utilizes in the manufacture. To my knowledge he has only built 2 of these trucks. Any chance of some pics of the unidentified traction engines in your collection please  |

I forget that not everyone would know about my collection. What scares me most is that it has grown a bit more since I took those pics. I'll do some more photos at the weekend. I continue to try and expand my collection and have done well with American steam models in recent months.
I've just seen my first ever Manx (from the Isle of Man) engine on eBay. Made in 1951, from the town I live in. Made by a firm I've never heard of.
It's not a mobile, it's not even proper toy steam. But, I will be going for it. This is a small island with a population (50 weeks of the year) of about 80,000. We're not big. So I'm really quite shocked to find that this was made here. If I win it, I will post a full set of pics and see if I can find out anything about the company that made it.
