... hope I spelled that right! Hello, lads! Am finally finished bringing lady D16 back from the dead. I painted the base plate wine red, added a hose leading to an evaporator under the stack and put a copper band over the bolier. Burner, burner tray, all washers and the sight glass are new. Tomorrow, I'll try her out to see if she's steam tight.
Kind greetz and cheers says, your old Tom

Tom, splendid job, that base color is very attractive, almost harking back to the earliest days of toy steam. Hoping it steams as good as it looks.

Well that certainly looks 1000% better

Can we see a pic of your evaporator setup? I'm still experimenting in that area, though at least I've remedied the backpressure problem I had.

Dear lads! Thank you for your kind words ... Tomorrow, I'll fire her up - that'll be the big moment. Will she run or spit steam everywhere? The EVAP (I'm also - amongst Irish-German - of US extraction, and we just luuuv abreviations ) is basically made just the way you, Mr.O, Rog and tmuir made yours! Thanks here to all of you for your valuable tips, drawings and hints.
Tomorrow, we shall see if it works. I hope I didn't eff it! The liquid muck/residue should accumulate in the lower part of the stack, in which I've installed a aluminum pipe (out of lack of a copper or brass one). Just like you lads suggested, a smaller pipe is soldered at an 75° angle into this "inner stack", connected via silicone hose to the regular exhaust that "normally", on the older Wilesco machines (like my lady D16) spits into a rather ugly plastic dish. It should squirt the steam/ oil mixture onto the inner side of the alu pipe, inside the stack. Now, what I hope will happen, is this: The oil will run down and collect at the bottom of the alu pipe/ stack. Steam will rise and "smoke" nicely out the stack. To empty the residue, I will have to pull of the stack (it's still connected via the hose), and empty it into whatever, without having to lift the machine.
Puuuh! Long story! I'll get back to you tomorrow, dear friends, and tell you how (and if!) all worked out well.
Oi! Stay well, y'all! And don't do anything I wouldn't do says your old pal
Tom
