Ok, Had to put the warning in for possibly big pics.
Photos of instructions for building a cranes.
Photos show gearing setup.
The 2 red arrows show the axles that control either lifting or lowering of crane hook.
The engine runs in neutral otherwise.

Showing the string setup

Showing a view from directly above crane
Motor is at left. Chain goes over sprockets 95 and 96 at top of pic. Sprocket 96 comes off an axle run by a worm gear directly off motor

A view from below and back of crane. Motor would be in right side in this pic, with chain sprockets closest to viewer (in middle of pic)

A view kinda from above. Crane arm connects to right side of pic.

Hope this helps Mike, or anyone. Any more pics of this model, or others, just let me know

Again, sorry for large pics, but didn't want to resize too much due to numbers in pic

No probs MM.

That's about as step by step that those instructions get.

If stuck for what exact gears are what numbers try a search on ebay (UK). for identification purposes

e.g. type in Meccano 96 should find meccano part 96 on ebay, which is a sprocket. Probably bitsorpieces will have most

Having a worm gear setup like that is quite powerful. Thos motors have some power too.

You can see why I'm looking forward to the old man dismantling it though. Dying to hook up a steam engine.
Would be good to compare electric vs steam too

No probs
I'll have a check around for other gear setups too.

Really want to find the Showmans. A particular one that said how much weight it pulled (which was a lot)
