Hi everyone,

Here is the Philcraft Beam Engine that I recently won on ebay.  Apart from being a bit grubby, everything appears to be ok ... the beam goes up and down.  The engine and boiler feel a little loose on the base ... perhaps it just needs screwing up?

Looks like one of the legs under the boiler is a screw ... there are no hand rails.

I would be very grateful if other Philcraft beam engine owners would have a quick look at the photos to see if there are other things that are odd or don't appear right.

Also, if anyone has any instructions for this type of engine ... could I grab a copy.  Thanks

Pete

There doesn't appear to be anything drastically wrong with it. As you say, one of the legs under the boiler is a screw and there are no hand rails. As has already been mentioned elsewhere, the pivot pins at the ends of the beam are missing. The only other things I can see are that the burner is missing and the exhaust pipe is missing. (It should loop back into the firebox and up the chimney.) The burner is a twin wick version of his standard burner.

See the web page of mine: http://rolywilliams.com/philcraft_beam_engine.html

Don't worry about it being a mirror image. Phil did say he made them in both orientations.

Thank you Roly

I can't remember what sort of burner I have with my Philcraft horizontal engine (single or twin burner) ... I'll check tonight.

I won't be able to do anything for a while as I'm away on business for a week, hopefully when I get back.

Cheers

Pete

That is nice Pete, maybe Phill Gravitt could supply you with the missing bits, or knowing you you probably have started to make them yourself.
