It is incumbent on Mamod to pay for shipping both ways for you to return the engine

I've talked to Mamod and we've exchanged emails. So far they said "Because of the high cost of carriage it would be impractical to return the engine. Have you any suggestions?" I'm waiting now for a reply to my email I sent back to them yesterday.

Perhaps they should send some new undamaged parts?
However if the engine paint is chipped or scratched, practical or not,
they do need to make good on it.

Several years ago I bought a new Jensen for a customer in Germany.
After he received it,
he contacted me and sent a couple short videos showing a flywheel that was cut badly out
of balance and should have been rejected. The engine would shake quite badly when running.
One should expect a little shaking from a single cylinder engine but not a lot. Once in a while
they make a mistake like this and they make it right. When I showed them what happened,
the folks at Jensen requested the engine shipped back and they replaced the flywheel
and shipped it back to the buyer, all at their expense, not the customer's.

Perhaps it's time for Mamod to step up to the plate.

Gil, thanks for the kind words of advice and support. However, these engines will not be going back to Mamod, as I can only see more issues coming forth from such repeated transit, and perhaps I wouldn't even trust Mamod to make a proper repair in any event!

Though the paint is scuffed, I do believe it will rub out okay and  there are no actual chips in the paint. The Mamod logo decal is a different story and I will be asking for replacements, which should be able to be mailed in a simple envelope!

That is sound thinking. Thou shalt rub thy scuffs away!
I misunderstood the seriousness of the damage when I read your post.

My descriptive clarity was wanting when I wrote the original post, as I sort of lumped some issues together!

Sorry about that
