I found an originally boxed set of the D366 ESSO-kit.

In the past Wilesco manufactured a very special kit of the D365 for the ESSO-company. This kit included three boxes with all the parts, partly pre-assembled.

Box Number 1 included the boiler house including the boiler and the engine. All of it already pre-assembled. Also the steering mechanism was already mounted.

Box number 2 included the front roller, the canopy and the plate for the bottom of the driver area.

To complete the roller box number 3 serves the rest: the rear wheels, the axle, the chimney and other small stuff.

Of course there was also a special manual how to put all the different parts together.

On the front of the manual you can find some explanations about OldSmkoy and some advertisement about ESSO. But the shown number about the age of OldSmoky turn out as a question: the show "113 yeras old" based on 1880. This assumes the model was made in 1993. But Wilesco told me th ESSO-roller was produced between 1986 and 1992....

As Wilesco produced only 1460 sets the ESSO-roller-kit is one of the rare Wilesco-models. And to find a set, which is not yet assembled is somehow a jackpot from a collectors point of view. The set I have in my collection now has some  original sticker in czech language. This version I have never seen before and maybe it is even more rare. Background of those sticker is still to be clarified,

My set also includes an additional manual in chzech language.

Also included in the original set is a little bottle of oil. But it is not the well known Wilesco one. It is a special bottle with ESSO-branding and the description "steam-roller-oil" on it.

Of course I will keep the set as not assembled. Attached a picture of my other assembled ESSO-roller.

A really rare one. I think it follows that ESSO marketing campaign which used a stationary engine as "bait". In three steps the customer has to be convinced to accept an ESSO lubrication concept for his company and for every step nearer to that goal he gets a part of the engine until after signing the contract the last piece is delivered. Maybe there are versions in other European languages. With a production number of around 1500 units it seems obvious that the campaign was aimed at middle to large European companies and Czechoslovakia has a long tradition of mechanical engineering (e.g. Skoda). How many of that Mobiles and Stationaries never were completetd? I think a lot of them. It is rather naive to think you can convince a high ranking decision maker with such a geegaw instead some advantages in hard cash but I remember it was the time when you get some gimmick when refueling your car for more than 20,- DM.

However a nice find and a new gem in your collection. Thumbs up!
