Hi John,

It looks light blue in which case Humbrol No. 47 Sea Blue is quite close.  The older one I have is Fawn which my wife possibly mixed for me, she is very good at this sort of thing.  I will look in the shed to see what spares I have and get back to you.

Regards Tony.

Hi John,

I have 4 wheels with tyres and a pair of axles if you would like them, just let me have an address.

I also found some more models awaiting painting along with ones that hadn't been started.

Regards Tony.

Hello John it definitely wont be easy but still worth doing it up...it is a Dinky toys Vanguard made by Meccano around 1953 ish, it would originally have been a beige or very light brown colour..there are a 2 variations i know off closed wheel arches which is sometimes light blue and open wheel arches which is the rarer type.
Here is my one that i played with as a kid ..unfortunately painted Black and Blue, i will be painting it its original beige colour soon....Steve

Tony, Wheels arrived safety many thanks,

looking at this further the axle tabs and the surrounding area really was just rotten so using the original chassis as a pattern cut out a new chassis sub frame from spare steel out of an old emergency exit box...

...bit more tin bashing to do and then a clean up of the chassis, will have a careful look at the body as there is some corrosion and pitting so will assess the best way forward

The car is now in the body shop; started off with some two part epoxy wood filler to fill the worst bits - namely the roof and the offside doors, then went out to Bekra Mode Shop in Newton Abbot and picked up a pack of Milliput white fine epoxy putty and found a couple of tins of Humbrol to mix and match the original paint a best as I can.

Carefully sanded down the first filler coat with a fine disc in the Dremel and finished off with wet and dry, mixed up a pinch of Milliput and with the aid of a magnifying eye glass spot filled the body smoothing it out with water and a finger, cocktail stick, knife blade etc.

if you look closely you will notice that the rotted door bottom where the worst corrosion was has now been rebuilt including the door cill...

Carefully rubbed the bodywork down with 180 wet and dry, and mixed up a sample test patch for the original paint as I cant get a big enough flake off to save for the match.

Will need to wire brush off the last of the old paint before a quick blow over in primer to see what the finish will be like.

wire brushed off the last of the paint on the bonnet and sprayed the body matt grey self etch primer, this showed up a couple of imperfections in the body that have now been filled, including rebuilding the rear light units, filler cap and boot catch... all out of Milliput

Another coat of primer after all the body has been rubbed down and washed off...

Mixed up the body colour and brushed on the first coat, leave now to dry for 24 hours ready for next coat
