As per title, just bought a green sw1 & when it arrived the front axle had snapped where the axle joins the steering column. If avyone has an old one lying around please contact me, as i'd rather not put a brand new one on an old model. I'd thought about drilling it out & re-fitting the old steering rod, how were they attached originally?
many thanks,

Mike, I know this is a TE1 (only pic I had to hand) but it is the same as a SW1.
The pin in question is a bit like a roll pin, with the ends splayed out into the trunnion fork.
Hope this helps. _________________ I have a soft spot for SR1's, and Jensen engines of the cast iron leccy variety |

Griffin,
It is the same as the sw1. How does the bar that goes down through the chimney attach to the axle pivot? It's this bar that has sheared off . |

Mike,
From what I can gather, the bar that goes down the chimney has the bottom threaded to about 3/4", like the top end. I am thinking this then screws into the fork, and there looks to be some solder around the join, possibly to stop it turning. _________________ I have a soft spot for SR1's, and Jensen engines of the cast iron leccy variety |

That's what i was hoping, should be able to drill out the axle pviot & rethread. Does anyone know what thread size/pitch was use for this part? |
