forget the last post about a loco, i now have a list of the parts i need, although i dont know how to go about it. i have a few options:
1. buy all the parts and make it myself, which will cost about £260
2. buy an mss loco in kit form, add the extras and sell the replaced bits, which would cost £145 for the loco and about £130 for the extras
3. buy a used mamod and do the same to that, which would probably be the best as the loco would be a bit cheeper, and i REALY want it to be a mamod!!!
im looking to replace:
*the safety valve
*reversing block
*cylinders
*buffer beams
*burner
does anyone have a mamod for sale which i could replace those bits on? preferably green and in good condition on the outside, with a boiler that is sound. im looking to spend around £100 on a mamod loco, any out there which i could buy???
many thanks

Option 3 is your best bet. People here tend to like their locos, so you might be better watching ebay.
Good thing is you can then upgrade the bits as the funds become available or if that isn't a problem then you can fit the upgrades as you feel fit.
Personally I am of the opinion that burner and safety valve are the only 'critical' upgrades. I would like the cylinders but they are expensive and my locos already keep pulling until their wheels spin.
Buffer beams obviously important if you already have rolling stock.
If watching ebay I would suggest searching on "Mamod", as quite often they are listed in rather random places. _________________ Chris

i think that would be best. what is the going rate for a SL1 loco or SR1 set?
i have the offer of a SL1 loco for £115, which i think is a little much, or an SR1 set for £170.
thanks

For a complete set you should be spending around 160-200 anything over and it has to be mint! _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode
