SG...you are a gal after my own heart...a simply beautiful restoration back to virtually new from the factory condition. Quite a handsome engine in design, but really brought out with a lot of TLC and polish. Worth the wait! _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |

A perfect job steamgranny! Good to see this old engine "brought back to life".
I think restoring a engine that looks as bad as this one gives the most fun _________________ My site: www.steam-toys.com

Alicia you've done a fantastic job there. It looks superb!
It has some very Latimer-like features doesn't it?
(A Luton is something I don't have, but I have plans in that direction. ) |

Thanks everyone
Yes, I did enjoy doing it & must be getting a bit like Erik - the rustier & more battered, the merrier
At least when they are in that state you have no regrets or soul-searching about what or what not to do.
And yes, Steve, very Latimer-like, indeed, having now had the pleasure of handling both. Very strong & sturdy build for engine & boiler & lovely heavy brass but the aluminium firebox bends just by looking at it And also have a gripe with baseplate, that sags in the middle. I'm thinking of adding something strategically placed underneath to help support.
Another grouse is amount of water condensate that pools under chimney, then all over baseplate. I tried a hollow rubber bung but didn't work very well & have now popped in a piece of sponge, until I can think of a better solution.
But despite these little niggles, they definitely come highly recommended. |
