Ok its up on blocks and not running on the floor as the original burner has problems and I need to build a new one before I can make it mobile but this test proves my drive system works.
First the still photos.
Still got Mamod rear wheels but now have the drive pulley, The original rubbers are lost and would not fit anyways but I just slid some silicon fuel line over the drive rod and as it was a fraction of a mm too small then wrapped two layers of insulation tape around it.
Use a Mamod sprung cord.
Now you need to use a small amount of pressure to hold the drive rod onto the wheels and for this I gutted an old 3 1/2 floppy drive I had lying around for the spring and it worked a treat.
Now onto the video. Enjoy
I plan to make a new burner over the next week or two. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

That's really nice, I am surprised at how quiet it is, and roughly how long had it been sitting around? _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

| That's great! Looks like it'll be a strong runner on the floor when the time comes. |

Excellent! I wonder about how fast these go compared to the Mamod rollers |

| A cracker! I like the real agricultural look that it sports. How much vertical movement is in the rear axle grooves? I see you have a spring in there for tension, can you adjust the diameter of the friction drive easily enough for speed control? Quiet too! |

Nice to see the workshop getting used. I need to get a heater for mine as it's too cold out there. You probably have the opposite problem |

| I like that Tony, it sounds great and runs at a good scale speed apparently. Whens the first mobile run? |

Thanks everyone, I'll try and answer everyones questions.
The roller was made some time between 1948 and 1958 and would say it has been atleast 30 years since it was last run, probably longer.
The rear wheels are not the original wheels but Mamod ones and are slightly larger diameter than the original wheels.
The rubber wheel that would of been on it originally would of been considerably larger probably around 15mm in diameter so it was made to run faster.
I don't have much movement at all on the rear axle so can't lower to to put a bigger friction wheel on to increase the speed but I am hoping one day to get better wheels for it and can adjust it then.
Have a look here on the bottom of the page in this link to see what the original wheels and friction drive should look like.

I need to have my lathe before I can make the new burner as I will need to make and overflow plug and bush for the burner but may start work and the sheet metal part before I get my lathe but I don't expect to have it running on te ground for a couple of weeks. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

It runs great! You didn't waste any time getting to that project.
I can see a few projects in the background waiting their turn. |
