Oh Tony, I'm green, very green. That is great and coming along very nicely. New burner and wheels, agree a price and then sell it to me Got to be a great idea.
Excellent and very rare mobile being brought back to life.

thanks for that tony. i checked the link you posted and checked the rear wheels. this would be a simple casting. if you can make a pattern (a wooden wheel ) there shouldnt be a problem with getting one cast. you will need to make the pattern slightly bigger to allow for shrinkage. ill donate my old alu.frying pan for the pot four wheels (patterns) would be good for the pour as to allow for a bad cast. the same for the front rollers.perhaps make a few extra. try and sell them on ebay . if some one bids it may lead to other rollers. ect. _________________ difficult things done straight away...the impossible takes me a little longer |

Thats I'll keep that in mind if I cant get them made locally.
One of my longer term goals is to build a small gas fired furnace to cast ali and maybe brass so I can do my own casting but have lots of other things to sort out first. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

I've always figured a pair of Wells wheels would be ok. They are cast in the same way and although not an exact copy, they are a lot closer match than those Mamod ones. _________________ Manx, the mobile man |

I've got a set and I think I checked and they were too big.
But as I will be getting my lathe tomorrow I will probably go back and check that again. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Spent a bit of time today and made a new burner for my Renown.
Notice how the bottom has been shaped so the wick pipe sits lower down than the rest of the tank so as to use all the meths.
This is copied off the original, the wick pipe only goes into the tank about 15mm but the grooves runs for 90% of the tank length to help the meths get into the wick tube.
I made this by using a 6mm diameter round router bit to route a channel into two bits of wood.
Sat some silver steel of the correct diameter into the bottom channel, put the brass sheet over it then the top bit of wood with the channel lined up over the top and clamped them together. Not perfect but good enough.
The wick tubes were salvaged from the original burner.
Here it is in place.
Now I still haven't got my camera back so this is my back up camera which has no sound on it but its better than nothing.
The roller still needs some more tweaking and maybe a new piston but its getting there.

No it still needs a bit more work yet, but it will get there.
But its progressed alot from when I got it of not running for probably over 20 years or more and half of it missing.
I've still got some friction I need to get rid of but thats enough for tonight. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Well done, it was great to see it moving and it can only get better from now on. _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

Cool to see Tony. I noticed how you spun one of two flywheels to get it started...will it reverse by just spinning the opposite direction? _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |

No it is a forward running roller only.
Its just a simply oscilator and the two pulley provide the gearing down for slow running although it should move faster than it is but due to the Mamod wheels being larger diameter than the original wheels the direct drive rubber is considerabe smaller on mine so it runs slower. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm
